Abstract From the Canadian patent
A system and method to measure the relative position and orientation of a remote body, such as a pilot's helmet. At least four high intensity infra red LEDs positioned on the remote body are pulsed one at a time in known sequence. The LEDs are pulsed by diode drivers including NMOS switches. The LEDs have darkened substrates and multiple (nine) heating pads. A multi-element (nine), wide angle, wide aperture, short focal length lens focuses pulsed light spots on a single highly linear high resolution, two-dimensional duo lateral position sensing diode having a single photoelectric sheet. Low noise transimpedance amplifiers reverse bias the position sensing diode and convert the position …

Why it's free to use
- Filed October 8, 1991. No grant is recorded for it in Canada; had it been granted, its 20-year term would have ended October 8, 2011.
- A certificate of supplementary protection adds at most two years for a drug, so even that would have ended by October 8, 2013.
- We check Canadian rights only. A patent in its family in another country could still be in force: check its family on Google Patents.
