Mill additions are disclosed which lower the CTE of and are compatible with, tin-phosphorus oxyfluoride glasses. The sealing materials provide fusion-type seals having a CTE not over about 110x10-7/°C and a sealing temperature not over about 350°C. Also disclosed is a family of glass compositions in the tin-phosphorus oxyfluoride system that exhibit very low glass transition temperatures and coefficients of thermal expansion not over about 160x10-7/°C (25-150°C). In addition to the four basic elements the glasses, contain up to 11% Nb, and may additionally contain up to 10%, taken individually or in combination of V, Fe and/or, Mo to further decrease the Tg and CTE values.

Why it's free to use
- Filed September 3, 1991 and granted June 25, 2002. A Canadian patent filed from October 1, 1989 lasts 20 years from filing, so its term ended September 3, 2011.
- A certificate of supplementary protection adds at most two years for a drug, so even that would have ended by September 3, 2013.
- We check Canadian rights only. A patent in its family in another country could still be in force: check its family on Google Patents.
