Abstract From the Canadian patent

An electronic trap (10) for flying insects. Insects such as flies are attracted to the trap by a UV light source (22) and then alight on a conductive grid (30) with carefully spaced alternative areas of opposite potential (40, 38). A pulsed cycle of electricity stuns the insects, which then dive down to a trap (26) at the bottom of the device and, being entrapped die.

Why it's free to use

  • Filed April 10, 1990. No grant is recorded for it in Canada; had it been granted, its 20-year term would have ended April 10, 2010.
  • A certificate of supplementary protection adds at most two years for a drug, so even that would have ended by April 10, 2012.
  • We check Canadian rights only. A patent in its family in another country could still be in force: check its family on Google Patents.
