Abstract From the Canadian patent

Sulfonated 2'-acryloyltaxol and sulfonated 2'-O-acyl acid taxol derivatives are synthesized which have improved water solubility and stability while maintaining bioactivity. In particular, 2'-(3-sulfo-1-oxopropyl)oxy taxol sodium salt is synthesized by reacting taxol with acrylic acid, and subsequently reacting the 2'-acryloyltaxol with bisulfite in a Michael reaction. 2'-(4-((2sulfoethyl)amino)-1,4-dioxobutyloxy)taxol sodium salt and 2'-{4-((3-sulfopropyl)amino)-1,4-dioxobutyloxy) taxol sodium salt are synthesized by reacting 2'-succinyltaxol with the tetrabutylammonium salts of taurine and 3-aminopropyl sulfonic acid, respectively, and subsequently exchanging the ammonium with sodium. …

Why it's free to use

  • Filed August 14, 1991 and granted November 18, 1997. A Canadian patent filed from October 1, 1989 lasts 20 years from filing, so its term ended August 14, 2011.
  • A certificate of supplementary protection adds at most two years for a drug, so even that would have ended by August 14, 2013.
  • We check Canadian rights only. A patent in its family in another country could still be in force: check its family on Google Patents.
