The flat keyboard is provided with a base laminate and with a cover laminate which are connected to each other. At the key locations, blister-like chambers are provided between the laminates. Each chamber contains a piezoelectric element. Upon mechanical stress but almost without travel, the element generates an electric signal. The flat keyboard can be manufactured economically and has a reduced thickness. The keyboard is immune to humidity and mechanical fatigue.

Why it's free to use
- Filed August 15, 1991. No grant is recorded for it in Canada; had it been granted, its 20-year term would have ended August 15, 2011.
- A certificate of supplementary protection adds at most two years for a drug, so even that would have ended by August 15, 2013.
- We check Canadian rights only. A patent in its family in another country could still be in force: check its family on Google Patents.
