Abstract From the Canadian patent

A balloon catheter with an unreinforced stem collapses compactly. A method of introducing a balloon catheter into the body passage of a patient consists of loading the balloon end of the catheter into the unattached sheath of an endoscope and passing the elongated tubular leg attached to the balloon through the lumen of a working channel of an unattached bridge of an endoscope; then joining the bridge and the sheath to form a unitary endoscope and introducing the balloon into the body passage of a patient. A kit is disclosed which includes a balloon catheter and a separate adapter which can be used to introduce inflating fluid into the balloon. INP/199/65139033, 082390

Why it's free to use

  • Filed August 8, 1991. No grant is recorded for it in Canada; had it been granted, its 20-year term would have ended August 8, 2011.
  • A certificate of supplementary protection adds at most two years for a drug, so even that would have ended by August 8, 2013.
  • We check Canadian rights only. A patent in its family in another country could still be in force: check its family on Google Patents.
