A process for the direct reduction of metal oxides containing iron to obtain a DRI metallized iron product comprises feeding heavy hydrocarbon oil under controlled conditions to a cracking zone upstream of the reduction reactor so as to form a cracked product rich in CH4 and thereafter feeding said cracked product directly to the reaction zone wherein a reformed reducing gas rich in H2 and CO is formed and contacted with said iron oxide material thereby effecting reduction of said iron oxide material in the reaction zone.

Why it's free to use
- Filed July 18, 1991. No grant is recorded for it in Canada; had it been granted, its 20-year term would have ended July 18, 2011.
- A certificate of supplementary protection adds at most two years for a drug, so even that would have ended by July 18, 2013.
- We check Canadian rights only. A patent in its family in another country could still be in force: check its family on Google Patents.
