Abstract From the Canadian patent

Dielectrophoretic collection rates of, microorganisms or other animate or inanimate dielectrically polarisable particles in suspension in a fluid are established by flowing the suspension past electrodes (17, 18) energised to produce a non-uniform alternating electric field in the suspension, terminating the energisation of the electrodes after a predetermined time to release particles collected from the suspension, and, downstream of the electrodes measuring the pulse of released particles as a measure of the rate of particle collection during energisation of the electrodes. Repeated measurements at different field frequencies enable a collection-rate spectrum to be established and the …

Why it's free to use

  • Filed November 27, 1990 and granted January 1, 2002. A Canadian patent filed from October 1, 1989 lasts 20 years from filing, so its term ended November 27, 2010.
  • A certificate of supplementary protection adds at most two years for a drug, so even that would have ended by November 27, 2012.
  • We check Canadian rights only. A patent in its family in another country could still be in force: check its family on Google Patents.
