A cationic resin containing blocked isocyanate groups which is suitable for use in electrodeposition is disclosed. The cationic resin is derived from an epoxy resin and contains in the resin molecule cationic salt groups, active hydrogen groups and blocked isocyanate groups. The blocked isocyanate groups are incorporated into the resin molecule by reacting the epoxy resin with a compound selected from the class consisting of mercapto compounds and acid group-containing compounds where the compounds also contain blocked isocyanate groups. The resin can be formulated into an electrocoating composition which is free of lead and yet provides outstanding corrosion resistance when …

Why it's free to use
- Filed June 14, 1991 and granted May 14, 1996. A Canadian patent filed from October 1, 1989 lasts 20 years from filing, so its term ended June 14, 2011.
- A certificate of supplementary protection adds at most two years for a drug, so even that would have ended by June 14, 2013.
- We check Canadian rights only. A patent in its family in another country could still be in force: check its family on Google Patents.
