Abstract From the Canadian patent

A method for detecting the presence of a certain substance in a medium is provided which is based on the use of genetically engineered tester cells which are capable of absorbing and of expressing the luciferase enzyme in the presence of said substance in their surrounding medium. In the performance of this method, cells are incubated with a tested medium and light generation under appropriate conditions is monitored, light generation above background levels being an indication of the presence of said substance in the tested medium. 82102.IC:lk/rrb

Why it's free to use

  • Filed June 14, 1991. No grant is recorded for it in Canada; had it been granted, its 20-year term would have ended June 14, 2011.
  • A certificate of supplementary protection adds at most two years for a drug, so even that would have ended by June 14, 2013.
  • We check Canadian rights only. A patent in its family in another country could still be in force: check its family on Google Patents.
