Abstract From the Canadian patent

The present invention relates to the field of biotechnology and genetic engineering and in particular a novel nucleotide sequence which codes for a streptokinase as, well as the recombinant DNA obtained therefrom which is used for the transformation of various host organisms. The technical object which is pursued with the proposed solution is to produce the protein in commercially useful quantities by the recombinant method, with the possibility of alternatively using different hosts to obtain a high-quality streptokinase capable of being used as a thrombolytic agent in the treatment of different disorders. Why it's free to use

  • Filed June 5, 1991 and granted June 12, 2001. A Canadian patent filed from October 1, 1989 lasts 20 years from filing, so its term ended June 5, 2011.
  • A certificate of supplementary protection adds at most two years for a drug, so even that would have ended by June 5, 2013.
  • We check Canadian rights only. A patent in its family in another country could still be in force: check its family on Google Patents.
