This coupling means comprises a sleeve containing a bore in which is located a bundle of optical fibers at least some of which are of compression-deformable material. The input ends of the fibers which receive, light from a light source are located in a, predetermined plane. The bore tapers from a relatively large diameter at a location in a second plane spaced from said predetermined plane to a relatively small. diameter at said predetermined plane. The tapered bore is of such a size that the optical fibers therein are laterally compressed and the compression-deformable fibers are so deformed in transverse cross-section relative to their normal cross-sections that the fibers more …

Why it's free to use
- Filed May 9, 1991 and granted August 21, 2001. A Canadian patent filed from October 1, 1989 lasts 20 years from filing, so its term ended May 9, 2011.
- A certificate of supplementary protection adds at most two years for a drug, so even that would have ended by May 9, 2013.
- We check Canadian rights only. A patent in its family in another country could still be in force: check its family on Google Patents.
