A process for producing N-(3',4'-dimethoxycinnamoyl)anthranilic acid, which comprises (i) allowing 3',4'dimethoxycinnamic acid to react with anthranilic acid in an aprotic polar solvent in the presence of a particular inorganic salt and an iminium salt -- which could be prepared quantitatively from dimethylformamide and an inexpensive acid halide -- or (ii) allowing 3',4'-dimethoxycinnamic acid to react with an iminium salt and then with an anthranilic acidinorganic salt complex, a novel complex not described in the literature. According to the process of this invention the, desired compound can be produced in a high yield with no substantial formation of hardly separable by-products. 16

Why it's free to use
- Filed May 11, 1990 and granted November 4, 1997. A Canadian patent filed from October 1, 1989 lasts 20 years from filing, so its term ended May 11, 2010.
- A certificate of supplementary protection adds at most two years for a drug, so even that would have ended by May 11, 2012.
- We check Canadian rights only. A patent in its family in another country could still be in force: check its family on Google Patents.
