Murine monoclonal antibodies are provided which bind specifically to the PreS1 and PreS2 polypeptides of the hepatitis B virus surface antigen (HHsAg) complex and which are useful to assay for PreS1 or PreS2 in samples of physiological material. The antibodies can also be used to subtype HBV, to raise the immunogenicity of blood plasma against HBV, to measure anti-PreS1 and anti-PreS2 antibodies, and to identify and characterize antigenic epitopes of PreS1 and PreS2 which may be useful in HBV subunit vaccines.

Why it's free to use
- Filed May 3, 1991. No grant is recorded for it in Canada; had it been granted, its 20-year term would have ended May 3, 2011.
- A certificate of supplementary protection adds at most two years for a drug, so even that would have ended by May 3, 2013.
- We check Canadian rights only. A patent in its family in another country could still be in force: check its family on Google Patents.
