Methods and apparatus accurately measure traffic flow i.e. the flow of vehicles within and near a crossing. Overlap of vehicles is avoided by setting the field of a camera not to a range from the inflow portion to the vicinity of the center of the crossing, but to a range from the center to the vicinity of the outflow portion of the crossing.

Why it's free to use
- Filed April 25, 1991. No grant is recorded for it in Canada; had it been granted, its 20-year term would have ended April 25, 2011.
- A certificate of supplementary protection adds at most two years for a drug, so even that would have ended by April 25, 2013.
- We check Canadian rights only. A patent in its family in another country could still be in force: check its family on Google Patents.
