Drosophila melanogaster have been shown to express large quantities of foreign proteins from genes placed under divergent transcriptional control of host gene promoters. The chimeric genes are introduced into flightless mutant Drosophila through P-element transformation. Transformed adult females accumulate the protein in their hemolymph. The protein can be purified and recovered in high yield from the hemolymph by conventional techniques.

Why it's free to use
- Filed April 16, 1991. No grant is recorded for it in Canada; had it been granted, its 20-year term would have ended April 16, 2011.
- A certificate of supplementary protection adds at most two years for a drug, so even that would have ended by April 16, 2013.
- We check Canadian rights only. A patent in its family in another country could still be in force: check its family on Google Patents.
