Abstract From the Canadian patent

The invention, known as a SNONUT (plural SNONUTZ) is a, recreational device which is designed to be used for travelling down an inclined snow covered area. The unique feature is the combination of a molded plastic 'saucer' and an inflated tubular rubber ring. The saucer is bound to a smaller plastic disc which forms the seat. Between these is placed the rubber ring, which is then inflated until the bindings are taut. When combined in this fashion one has the comfort of a cushioned seat and the lower friction and protection of a plastic bottom.

Why it's free to use

  • Filed April 12, 1991. No grant is recorded for it in Canada; had it been granted, its 20-year term would have ended April 12, 2011.
  • A certificate of supplementary protection adds at most two years for a drug, so even that would have ended by April 12, 2013.
  • We check Canadian rights only. A patent in its family in another country could still be in force: check its family on Google Patents.
