Abstract From the Canadian patent

Active turn-off or disabling circuits respond to control signals from a control unit which defines the mode of operation of a receiver. In response to a designation of a standby mode of operation the active disabling unit actively disables a pulse width modulator, such as a switched pincushion correction circuit to, prevent pulses from being produced based upon an input of ringing signal. The ringing signal may be produced in a horizontal flyback transformer during a transition interval that follows a transition to standby mode of operation.

Why it's free to use

  • Filed April 11, 1991 and granted January 21, 1997. A Canadian patent filed from October 1, 1989 lasts 20 years from filing, so its term ended April 11, 2011.
  • A certificate of supplementary protection adds at most two years for a drug, so even that would have ended by April 11, 2013.
  • We check Canadian rights only. A patent in its family in another country could still be in force: check its family on Google Patents.
