Abstract From the Canadian patent

Novel pesticide formulations prepared from neem seeds are disclosed. Two distinct fractions are derived from non-polar, hydrophobic solvent neem seed extracts which are substantially free of azadirachtin by removing the hydrophobic solvent and cooling the resulting neem oil to form a semi-solid neem wax fraction and a clarified neem oil fraction.

Why it's free to use

  • Filed April 5, 1991 and granted January 2, 2001. A Canadian patent filed from October 1, 1989 lasts 20 years from filing, so its term ended April 5, 2011.
  • A certificate of supplementary protection adds at most two years for a drug, so even that would have ended by April 5, 2013.
  • We check Canadian rights only. A patent in its family in another country could still be in force: check its family on Google Patents.
