Abstract From the Canadian patent

A method and apparatus are disclosed for mixing two liquid phases in a controlled fashion without employing high circumferential speeds of the stirrer and for then, separating these dispersed liquids. The apparatus of the invention includes a mixer in which a rotating helical stirrer maintains liquid circulation and uniform mixing of the two liquid phases. The dispersion flows out of the mixer, and into a settling system in which the flow velocity is varied to encourage coalescence and separation of the two phases.

Why it's free to use

  • Filed April 3, 1991 and granted December 6, 1994. A Canadian patent filed from October 1, 1989 lasts 20 years from filing, so its term ended April 3, 2011.
  • A certificate of supplementary protection adds at most two years for a drug, so even that would have ended by April 3, 2013.
  • We check Canadian rights only. A patent in its family in another country could still be in force: check its family on Google Patents.
