An objective lens actuator for an optical storage drive includes a torsion plate spring (11) which has a substantially L-shaped transverse cross section and is fixed, at its central portion, to an objective lens holder (12) and, at its opposite ends, to free ends of a pair of parallel spaced, cantilevered plate springs (14). The torsion plate spring (11) is caused to twist to displace the objective lens holder (12) and an objective lens (15) mounted thereon in the tracking direction. The parallel spaced plate springs (14) are caused to bend to displace the objective lens holder (12) and the objective lens (15) in the focusing direction.

Why it's free to use
- Filed February 12, 1991 and granted January 16, 1996. A Canadian patent filed from October 1, 1989 lasts 20 years from filing, so its term ended February 12, 2011.
- A certificate of supplementary protection adds at most two years for a drug, so even that would have ended by February 12, 2013.
- We check Canadian rights only. A patent in its family in another country could still be in force: check its family on Google Patents.
