The present invention involves the construction of several mutations in the Escherichia coli alkaline phosphatase gene that result in the production of an enzyme having an improved specific activity. The resultant mutant enzymes have up to 1.5- to 36-fold higher specific activity, while retaining a temperature stability that is significantly higher than that of mammalian alkaline phosphatase enzymes. The utility of mutant E. coli alkaline phosphatase as an enzyme label in binding assays is also demonstrated. 47

Why it's free to use
- Filed February 6, 1991. No grant is recorded for it in Canada; had it been granted, its 20-year term would have ended February 6, 2011.
- A certificate of supplementary protection adds at most two years for a drug, so even that would have ended by February 6, 2013.
- We check Canadian rights only. A patent in its family in another country could still be in force: check its family on Google Patents.
