A method for detecting the presence of Chlamydia trachomatis in a test sample such as a, clinical specimen containing infected human cells in which the test sample is treated to expose multivalent Chlamydia antigens from C. trachomatis present in the sample and a labeled antibody reagent is added to form a mixture comprising immune complexes of the labeled antibody and released antigens. The mixture is passed through a glass fiber depth filter that is impervious to the resulting immune complexes and the label that is retained by the filter is detected. The half-sandwich method is sensitive and rapid and, requires a minimum number of reagents and assay steps.

Why it's free to use
- Filed February 4, 1991. No grant is recorded for it in Canada; had it been granted, its 20-year term would have ended February 4, 2011.
- A certificate of supplementary protection adds at most two years for a drug, so even that would have ended by February 4, 2013.
- We check Canadian rights only. A patent in its family in another country could still be in force: check its family on Google Patents.
