An improved process for the synthesis of 2-(2'-thienyl)ethylamine from suitably functionalized derivatives of 2-(2'-thienyl)ethanol employing ammonia gas in the presence of a metal salt or liquid ammonia and alkyl ketone as a solvent. The 2-(2'-thienyl)ethylamine produced by this process is advantageously converted to the carbamic acid salt, which is suitably reconverted to 2-(2'-thienyl)ethylamine, a useful intermediate in the synthesis of ticlopidine.

Why it's free to use
- Filed January 25, 1991. No grant is recorded for it in Canada; had it been granted, its 20-year term would have ended January 25, 2011.
- A certificate of supplementary protection adds at most two years for a drug, so even that would have ended by January 25, 2013.
- We check Canadian rights only. A patent in its family in another country could still be in force: check its family on Google Patents.
