Abstract From the Canadian patent

A method and apparatus are provided for producing a product comprising a carbide compound, such as for example silicon carbide. A reactor is provided which has a chamber defined therein which is divided into a combustion zone and a reaction zone. A combustible mixture is injected into the combustion zone in a direction generally toward the reaction zone and is, accordingly combusted in the combustion zone. At least one reactant (i.e. silane) is injected at the boundary between the zones into the reactor chamber in a direction generally parallel to the longitudinal axis of the chamber so as to react to form raw product comprising the carbide compound.

Why it's free to use

  • Filed January 23, 1991 and granted January 7, 1997. A Canadian patent filed from October 1, 1989 lasts 20 years from filing, so its term ended January 23, 2011.
  • A certificate of supplementary protection adds at most two years for a drug, so even that would have ended by January 23, 2013.
  • We check Canadian rights only. A patent in its family in another country could still be in force: check its family on Google Patents.
