Abstract From the Canadian patent

A microwave transmission line is provided including a class of dielectric materials known as relaxor dielectrics having very high dielectric constants of greater than 1000 low dielec-, tric loss and large variations of the real part of the dielectric constant with varying temperature. The phase of a microwave signal passed through such a transmission line is modulated by subjecting the transmission line to light that is absorbed in the dielectric layer causing a variation in the dielectric constant and a change in the velocity of the continuous microwave signal passing through the transmission line.

Why it's free to use

  • Filed January 16, 1991 and granted October 18, 1994. A Canadian patent filed from October 1, 1989 lasts 20 years from filing, so its term ended January 16, 2011.
  • A certificate of supplementary protection adds at most two years for a drug, so even that would have ended by January 16, 2013.
  • We check Canadian rights only. A patent in its family in another country could still be in force: check its family on Google Patents.
