Abstract From the Canadian patent

An elongate hollow cylindrical member houses electronic circuitry and has disposed on its surface on, either end, a live electrode and a spaced common electrode. The electronic circuitry includes a difference amplifier and electromyogram signals detected by the electrodes are applied to opposite polarity inputs of the difference amplifier. As the electromyogram signals are of substantially equal amplitude and phase, the electromyogram signals will be subtracted from each other in the difference amplifier to provide a substantially zero output due to electromyogram signals at the output of the difference amplifier. However, electrocardiograph signals being of, opposite phase, will be added …

Why it's free to use

  • Filed December 21, 1990 and granted September 14, 1999. A Canadian patent filed from October 1, 1989 lasts 20 years from filing, so its term ended December 21, 2010.
  • A certificate of supplementary protection adds at most two years for a drug, so even that would have ended by December 21, 2012.
  • We check Canadian rights only. A patent in its family in another country could still be in force: check its family on Google Patents.
