Cu-Al CATALYSTS, FIELD OF THE INVENTION The invention relates to a process for the catalytic vapor phase hydrogenation of bound oxygen-containing organic compounds and particularly to the catalytic hydrogenation of esters. DESCRIPTION OF RELATED TECHNOLOGY The hydrogenation of, for example, mono-esters normally yields alcohols according to a simple relationship: RC(O)OR' + 2H2?R'OH + RCH2OH, The hydrogenation of diesters generally results in a more complicated product mixture. For example, the hydrogenation of a dialkyl maleate typically results in the formation of several products the amount of each depending on the reaction conditions: ROC(O)CH=CHC(O)OR + xH2?2ROH + 1,4-Butanediol + …

Why it's free to use
- Filed December 20, 1990. No grant is recorded for it in Canada; had it been granted, its 20-year term would have ended December 20, 2010.
- A certificate of supplementary protection adds at most two years for a drug, so even that would have ended by December 20, 2012.
- We check Canadian rights only. A patent in its family in another country could still be in force: check its family on Google Patents.
