A device for fastening onto a vehicle of such a load carrier as is provided with a strut (4) extending transversely across the vehicle roof, and with support feet (3) disposed at the ends of the strut and abutting against the vehicle roof and with clamping, units which, for fastening the load carrier to the vehicle roof are movable in clamping directions (7) substantially transversely of the direction of travel of the vehicle.
