A turbine rotor is formed from two rotor segments that are composed of different low allay steels one a high, temperature alloy and the other a low temperature alloy. The rotor segments have cavities in confronting faces that form an annular flange at the outer surface with the segments, welded together across the flange. A clad layer is first welded an one of the flanges and a filler material welds the clad layer to the other flange to form a composite turbine rotor.

Why it's free to use
- Filed November 28, 1990 and granted January 8, 2002. A Canadian patent filed from October 1, 1989 lasts 20 years from filing, so its term ended November 28, 2010.
- A certificate of supplementary protection adds at most two years for a drug, so even that would have ended by November 28, 2012.
- We check Canadian rights only. A patent in its family in another country could still be in force: check its family on Google Patents.
