Orthopaedic supports to maintain lumbar lordosis are known and are in the form of cyclindrical rolls cut from slabs of polyurethane. In this invention, the support is in the form of an elongate pad that is substantially D-shaped in crosssection and that has been moulded from material that has a compressibility such that a 25 percent indentation into the pad requires from about 8.8 kPA to about 10.7 kPA applied pressure. The surface of the pad that in use engages a person's back is slightly concave along its length. The pad has better mechanical strength than the known rolls and is more adaptable in use.

Why it's free to use
- Filed November 27, 1990. No grant is recorded for it in Canada; had it been granted, its 20-year term would have ended November 27, 2010.
- A certificate of supplementary protection adds at most two years for a drug, so even that would have ended by November 27, 2012.
- We check Canadian rights only. A patent in its family in another country could still be in force: check its family on Google Patents.
