Abstract From the Canadian patent

Supplied with an input signal into which a carrier signal is modulated at a frame period by a data signal and unique words periodically interspersed throughout the data signal, a demodulating circuit quadrature demodulates the input signal into an output signal. A cross-correlating circuit calculates a crosscorrelation coefficient between the output signal and a locally known unique word. A frame synchronizing circuit compares the cross-correlation coefficient with a predetermined threshold value and delivers an aperture when the cross-correlation coefficient is below the predetermined threshold value. A phase calculating circuit calculates phase errors between a recovered carrier signal …

Why it's free to use

  • Filed November 9, 1990 and granted January 11, 1994. A Canadian patent filed from October 1, 1989 lasts 20 years from filing, so its term ended November 9, 2010.
  • A certificate of supplementary protection adds at most two years for a drug, so even that would have ended by November 9, 2012.
  • We check Canadian rights only. A patent in its family in another country could still be in force: check its family on Google Patents.
