Abstract From the Canadian patent

A HYDROCARBON FORMATION, (D#78,782-F) ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE, The invention is a method of evaluating a sample of an underground formation such as drill cuttings to determine the producibility of any hydrocarbons present in the formation by solvating a sample in a polar solvent which will solvate asphaltenes, solvating the sample in an aliphatic solvent which will solvate most crude fractions without solvating asphaltenes quantitatively measuring the emission fluorescence at a wavelength below 400 nm of both solvated samples at an excitation wavelength at which most petroleum compounds fluoresce and, determining the producibility of any hydrocarbon present in the sample by comparing the …

Why it's free to use

  • Filed November 6, 1990. No grant is recorded for it in Canada; had it been granted, its 20-year term would have ended November 6, 2010.
  • A certificate of supplementary protection adds at most two years for a drug, so even that would have ended by November 6, 2012.
  • We check Canadian rights only. A patent in its family in another country could still be in force: check its family on Google Patents.
