A composite wastewater sampler includes a flowthrough-chamber having an inlet port and an outlet port with a path between them that gradually increases in depth and width and then decreases in width. It is shaped to cause fluid to: (1) flow from the inlet port; (2) drop to a lower level of flow within the flow-through-chamber; (3) gradually adjust in cross-sectional shape to the outlet port; and (4) flow back into a wastewater pipe. A sampling nozzle extends into the flow-throughchamber adjacent to the inlet port and within the path of the downwardly flowing wastewater so that wastewater exiting the port contacts the nozzle and flows downwardly across it.

Why it's free to use
- Filed October 12, 1990 and granted October 2, 2001. A Canadian patent filed from October 1, 1989 lasts 20 years from filing, so its term ended October 12, 2010.
- A certificate of supplementary protection adds at most two years for a drug, so even that would have ended by October 12, 2012.
- We check Canadian rights only. A patent in its family in another country could still be in force: check its family on Google Patents.
