Abstract From the Canadian patent

The isotopes of zirconium can be partially or completely separated by loading an aqueous solution of an ionic compound of zirconium onto a cationic exchange resin which serves as the stationary phase of a chromatograph, eluting the compound with an aqueous acid and collecting distinct elution volumes representative of each isotope. In a preferred embodiment the eluent, is a strong mineral acid, such as hydrochloric acid and the chromatograph is of a type, such as a continuous annular chromatograph that it can be operated in a continuous, steady state manner.

Why it's free to use

  • Filed October 11, 1990 and granted January 2, 2001. A Canadian patent filed from October 1, 1989 lasts 20 years from filing, so its term ended October 11, 2010.
  • A certificate of supplementary protection adds at most two years for a drug, so even that would have ended by October 11, 2012.
  • We check Canadian rights only. A patent in its family in another country could still be in force: check its family on Google Patents.
