A garment or diaper has a fastening system for attaching the forward and rearward portions of the diaper. The fastening system comprises a hook fastener portion preferably made of extruded material which is mounted to an elastic portion which biases the hook into a protective pocket when in its unextended position. The pocket protects the hook from foreign material such as lint which would normally be attracted to the hook and contaminate its surface.

Why it's free to use
- Filed October 9, 1990. No grant is recorded for it in Canada; had it been granted, its 20-year term would have ended October 9, 2010.
- A certificate of supplementary protection adds at most two years for a drug, so even that would have ended by October 9, 2012.
- We check Canadian rights only. A patent in its family in another country could still be in force: check its family on Google Patents.
