Abstract From the Canadian patent

In a television receiver which comprises a video memory for noise reduction, large-area flicker reduction still, pictures and the like, an additional picture is generated by also storing its pixels in the video memory. The pixels of the additional picture are generated once by a pixel generator protected from being overwritten by the video signal applied at a field frequency of 50 Hz by also storing a blanking bit for each pixel, preventing said pixel from being overwritten by the video signal. The additional picture may be for example, a, teletext page or an operating menu.

Why it's free to use

  • Filed October 5, 1990 and granted June 27, 2000. A Canadian patent filed from October 1, 1989 lasts 20 years from filing, so its term ended October 5, 2010.
  • A certificate of supplementary protection adds at most two years for a drug, so even that would have ended by October 5, 2012.
  • We check Canadian rights only. A patent in its family in another country could still be in force: check its family on Google Patents.
