Abstract From the Canadian patent

An oleopneumatic load intensifier apparatus for creating a rapid advance of a tool carrying piston rod followed by slow advance of the piston rod at an increased load. The apparatus has a master cylinder and an actuating cylinder that can assume different positions with respect to the master cylinder while maintaining fluid communication therewith. An enclosed hydraulic system is shared by the master and actuating cylinders. Pneumatic pressure actuates a piston within the master cylinder that causes a rapid advancement of a hydraulically fed piston within the actuating cylinder, causing a piston rod and a tool associated therewith to contact a workpiece. Why it's free to use

  • Filed September 18, 1990 and granted May 11, 1999. A Canadian patent filed from October 1, 1989 lasts 20 years from filing, so its term ended September 18, 2010.
  • A certificate of supplementary protection adds at most two years for a drug, so even that would have ended by September 18, 2012.
  • We check Canadian rights only. A patent in its family in another country could still be in force: check its family on Google Patents.
