A tacky, drapeable, ceramic-forming sheet is prepared by (a) dispersing in water a ceramic-forming powder and a fiber, (b) flocculating the dispersion by adding a cationic wet strength resin and an anionic polymer; (c) dewatering the flocculated dispersion to form a sheet; (d) wet pressing and drying the sheet, and (e) coating or impregnating the sheet with a ceramic-forming adhesive that is a polymeric ceramic precursor, or a dispersion of an organic binder and the materials used to form the sheet. The sheets can be stacked on top of one another to form laminates which are then fired, to consolidate the sheets to a ceramic.

Why it's free to use
- Filed September 13, 1990 and granted March 14, 2000. A Canadian patent filed from October 1, 1989 lasts 20 years from filing, so its term ended September 13, 2010.
- A certificate of supplementary protection adds at most two years for a drug, so even that would have ended by September 13, 2012.
- We check Canadian rights only. A patent in its family in another country could still be in force: check its family on Google Patents.
