A novel molding composition is provided herein. The molding composition comprises 90% ? 5% by weight shredded spent rubber tires and correspondingly 10% ? 5% by weight of a resin system comprised either wholly of a formaldehyde/resorcinol resin or of, a mixture of the formaldehyde/resorcinol resin with a resin cross-linking agent system with or without a conventional sulfur vulcanization system and/or a fire retardant agent. The resin cross-linking agent system may be combined with a conventional sulfur vulcanization system for cross-linking the rubber.
