The present invention provides a process and host cell for use in increasing the amount of a desired protein produced by a cell line. The process and the cell line use a first transcription unit containing a gene for a transactivator protein to control the transactivation of a second transcription unit such that the amount of desired protein expression can be increased without affecting adversely cell growth. Preferred transactivatior proteins are derived from E1A.

Why it's free to use
- Filed January 10, 1990 and granted November 30, 1999. A Canadian patent filed from October 1, 1989 lasts 20 years from filing, so its term ended January 10, 2010.
- A certificate of supplementary protection adds at most two years for a drug, so even that would have ended by January 10, 2012.
- We check Canadian rights only. A patent in its family in another country could still be in force: check its family on Google Patents.
