Abstract From the Canadian patent

Abstract, A method for moving data between sessions on a workstation having a video display. A source session having data in protected and unprotected fields is copied to storage through a clipboard media. Pasting of data from the clipboard into unprotected fields of a destination session is accomplished selectively. Pasting is selectively concluded based upon a comparison of source protected fields with corresponding destination protected fields, where the workstation operator is notified of mismatches and responds accordingly.

Why it's free to use

  • Filed July 24, 1990 and granted April 12, 1994. A Canadian patent filed from October 1, 1989 lasts 20 years from filing, so its term ended July 24, 2010.
  • A certificate of supplementary protection adds at most two years for a drug, so even that would have ended by July 24, 2012.
  • We check Canadian rights only. A patent in its family in another country could still be in force: check its family on Google Patents.
