A frequency synthesizer using a phase-locked loop is disclosed. The frequency synthesis is accomplished by a closed loop arrangement comprising: a reference oscillator, a phase detector, a programmable counter a, phase detector, a loop filter, a voltage controlled oscillator (VCO), and a frequency translator. The phase detector is supplied with a reference signal from the reference oscillator and a signal from the programmable counter, and compares phases of the two signals. A frequency translator is provided in a manner to receive the signal from the VCO and downward translate the frequency of the signal received. The output of the frequency translator is fed to the programmable counter …

Why it's free to use
- Filed July 16, 1990. No grant is recorded for it in Canada; had it been granted, its 20-year term would have ended July 16, 2010.
- A certificate of supplementary protection adds at most two years for a drug, so even that would have ended by July 16, 2012.
- We check Canadian rights only. A patent in its family in another country could still be in force: check its family on Google Patents.
