Abstract From the Canadian patent

The invention relates to the combination of a closure and of a container, the closure displaying a peripheral depending skirt while the container displays along the walls thereof, a continuous peripheral flange receiving, on the top face thereof, the lower edge of the closure skirt. The connection of the flange at each corner is weakened by the presence of a series of gaps to render the flange at those areas breakable to thereby provide a visual indication of removal of the closure whether it be authorized or unauthorized.

Why it's free to use

  • Filed June 18, 1990 and granted December 1, 1992. A Canadian patent filed from October 1, 1989 lasts 20 years from filing, so its term ended June 18, 2010.
  • A certificate of supplementary protection adds at most two years for a drug, so even that would have ended by June 18, 2012.
  • We check Canadian rights only. A patent in its family in another country could still be in force: check its family on Google Patents.
