A method of producing a chromium-containing steel sheet hotdip plated with aluminum. A steel sheet containing not less than about 3 wt % of chromium is pre-plated at each side thereof with an iron-phosphorous alloy so that a pre-plating layer of the ironphosphorous alloy about 0.05 to 3.0 µm thick is formed on each side of the steel sheet. The steel sheet is heated and then subjected to an aluminum hot-dip plating by being dipped in a bath of molten aluminum or a molten aluminum alloy. An undercoat nickel plating layer may be formed on the steel sheet in advance of pre-plating with the iron-phosphorous alloy.

Why it's free to use
- Filed June 15, 1990 and granted May 10, 1994. A Canadian patent filed from October 1, 1989 lasts 20 years from filing, so its term ended June 15, 2010.
- A certificate of supplementary protection adds at most two years for a drug, so even that would have ended by June 15, 2012.
- We check Canadian rights only. A patent in its family in another country could still be in force: check its family on Google Patents.
