Abstract From the Canadian patent

This invention relates to a Viterbi decoder for decoding a convolution coded reception signal. The Viterbi decoding is an algorithm for efficiently executing the maximum likelihood decoding using a convolution code by selecting a path locating at the minimum distance from a reception series between two paths which are joined. Since it is necessary to store a state metric of each state, after the state metric of the surviving path was calculated by ACS calculation, it is considered to normalize metrics. However this results in a large circuit scale and a low processing speed. Therefore, in this invention a, maximum likelihood value of a present state metric is detected from a maximum …

Why it's free to use

  • Filed June 15, 1990 and granted February 22, 2000. A Canadian patent filed from October 1, 1989 lasts 20 years from filing, so its term ended June 15, 2010.
  • A certificate of supplementary protection adds at most two years for a drug, so even that would have ended by June 15, 2012.
  • We check Canadian rights only. A patent in its family in another country could still be in force: check its family on Google Patents.
