Abstract From the Canadian patent

The invention has application only to a first oil well producing oil having a high water cut, said oil well being completed in a reservoir having an increased gas saturation in the, vicinity of the first oil well arising from injection of gas, through an adjacent injection well. The first oil well is treated by injecting through it into the reservoir a slug of noncondensible gas in an amount between about 40,000 m3 and 200,000 m3. The first well is then placed back on production and its water cut is significantly reduced.

Why it's free to use

  • Filed June 13, 1990 and granted November 22, 1994. A Canadian patent filed from October 1, 1989 lasts 20 years from filing, so its term ended June 13, 2010.
  • A certificate of supplementary protection adds at most two years for a drug, so even that would have ended by June 13, 2012.
  • We check Canadian rights only. A patent in its family in another country could still be in force: check its family on Google Patents.
