Abstract From the Canadian patent

A dual port, random access, read/write memory is provided such that each microprocessor can access shared memory locations without regard to the state of the other microprocessor. Previously known dual port systems use delays, called wait states, or handshaking techniques to control memory access and to resolve overlapping memory access requests. This invention avoids the need for special timing controls by improving memory response time. Once a valid address is placed on the address bus by the microprocessor, which is recognized by the memory as being within its range of assigned address values the, memory prefetches the data at that address on the chance that a read request for that …

Why it's free to use

  • Filed June 7, 1990 and granted December 9, 1997. A Canadian patent filed from October 1, 1989 lasts 20 years from filing, so its term ended June 7, 2010.
  • A certificate of supplementary protection adds at most two years for a drug, so even that would have ended by June 7, 2012.
  • We check Canadian rights only. A patent in its family in another country could still be in force: check its family on Google Patents.
