A safety hypodermic syringe includes a hypodermic needle 30 fixedly connected to holding means 34 and constantly supported by an elastic element 38 for making axial movement, which holding means 34 is normally retained by a clamping means 20 at a ready position for injection. When a hollow plunger 50 is pushed to the front limit the, hypodermic needle 30 becomes released from the constraint of the clamping means 20 and pushed by the elastic element 38 to drop and to further follow a covering means 56 to be discarded and squeezed into the inner chamber 52 of the plunger 50 so as to isolate from outside and to prevent from pricking accident or possible body fluid contact.

Why it's free to use
- Filed June 4, 1990 and granted October 14, 1997. A Canadian patent filed from October 1, 1989 lasts 20 years from filing, so its term ended June 4, 2010.
- A certificate of supplementary protection adds at most two years for a drug, so even that would have ended by June 4, 2012.
- We check Canadian rights only. A patent in its family in another country could still be in force: check its family on Google Patents.
