A purification process for a gold-containing iodine solution, or pregnant, gold-bearing iodine lixiviant that results from the leaching of a gold-containing material with an iodine/iodide lixiviant solution. The process involves purification of the gold-bearing iodine lixiviant produced by a lixivial process such as in, situ, heap, vat, or agitated leaching with a certain, type of strongly acidic cation-exchange resin to facilitate subsequent recovery of gold and regeneration and recycling of the iodine lixiviant by electrolysis thus making possible pollution-free, efficient recovery of gold.

Why it's free to use
- Filed May 11, 1990 and granted June 23, 1998. A Canadian patent filed from October 1, 1989 lasts 20 years from filing, so its term ended May 11, 2010.
- A certificate of supplementary protection adds at most two years for a drug, so even that would have ended by May 11, 2012.
- We check Canadian rights only. A patent in its family in another country could still be in force: check its family on Google Patents.
